There’s Plenty You Can Still Do!

there's plenty you can still doIt’s time to get creative about our changing way of life under the Covid-19 virus. I hope all of you are staying home, abiding by the directives to lock down and only leave home for the essentials and not spread the virus.

While there is plenty of political pain right now, this is the time to band together and find ways we can support each other.

If you’re not leaving your house, what can you do? There’s no need to hang around and feel blue.

Here are a few ideas. You will likely have lots more. Please feel free to share them with me.

Create a circle of support: I’m sure that most of you have at least ten friends or neighbors who are isolated right now. Reach out to them. A text, an e-mail or a phone call to let them know you care. This will go a very long way toward relieving the loneliness of this enforced isolation. Of course, you can always offer to pick up groceries or prescriptions when you are out. Young folks: How about mowing your neighbor’s grass? How about dropping a bunch of spring daffodils on an elderly neighbor’s porch?

Make masks: Many communities have local groups making masks for medical workers and others who need them. If you have this skill or some fabric, Google a local group and lend a hand.

Have lunch online: If you can Facetime or even go into a Zoom room, invite a friend to share a virtual sandwich – or even a cocktail—and chat.

Buy a gift card:  Buy a gift card to be used at a later date to help support local restaurants and staff. Better yet, perhaps a group could organize to buy dinner delivery from a local restaurant for hospital staff or their families.

Donate: Many local organizations are in dire need of funds and demands on their resources increase so  dramatically. Consider giving to your favorite organizations top help people stay afloat, especially those who have lost jobs.

Light a Light: There’s a nationwide campaign for everyone to light a candle or a light in front yards on the evening of April 1 to symbolize our unity in this fight. Some people are actually putting out their holiday lights again.

Take care of yourself: Please, everyone, stay well and stay home. I love you. This will pass.

Bright Blessings to all!
