How are you coping during these terrible times? Most likely, you are under a shelter at home order. Most likely, you are afraid.
Inevitably your life has changed, as have all of our lives, possibly forever.
I wish I had some way to reassure you, to tell you everything will be all right, that this, too, shall pass. All I can tell you is that this will pass, maybe not soon. When it does pass, many we loved will be gone; retirement income and jobs will be uncertain and life will simultaneously be simple and immeasurably more complicated.
Right now, our task is to survive.
Music is what is helping me survive right now. I hope it will help you, too.
Partially, it’s a matter of taste. Whatever music you love will give you energy and comfort right now. I happen to love Queen, the Beach Boys and Joan Baez. Go figure. Call me weird. They work for me.
There is nothing like cleaning the house to Queen and We Are the Champions or sorting and folding laundry while belting out Wish We All Could Be California Girls. I particularly like Elton John to accompany my cooking chores. Tiny Dancer and Rocket Man are at the top of my Elton hit parade right now. Ditto for anything from the Beatles. I’m sure I have totally given away my age by these choices. LOL
Singing? Dang, most times when I sing, my husband asks if I am in pain. He thinks I sound like a wounded bull. If my singing gives him pain, I don’t care. It truly gives me joy. I sing to the dogs, to my horse, to the walls and the flowers. I already know that I’ll be giving him ear plugs for Christmas this year. I told you I am weird. Whether or not you can sing, singing is life giving. Do it!
Then there’s the lifesaver music for me: 528 Hz quiet background pieces that I have running all day and much of the evening, kind of a subconscious undercurrent of serenity that comes through my awareness exactly at the moment I need a little stress support. They are unobtrusive but massively stress relieving for me.
If you’re not familiar with 528 Hz, it has been called the frequency of love and healing and perhaps even DNA repair.
Much touted by Dr. Leonard Horowitz, the 528 Hz frequency is a frequency that is central to the “musical mathematical matrix of creation.” He called 528 the “love frequency” that resonates at the heart of everything. It’s been connected to sacred geometry and the ancient Solfeggio musical scale that uses sound to repair DNA and restore the human connection with earth and all realms. It is purported to stimulate an increased amount of life energy, clarity of mind, awareness, awakened or activated creativity, ecstatic states like deep inner peace, dance and celebration.
To me, it sounds like the music of the spheres.
There is also the 432 Hz frequency, said to bring us all into harmony with the energies of the planet, sometimes called a manifestation of the heartbeat of the Earth. For me, that sounds like a giant exhalation. I love it!
You don’t have to believe it. These harmonic frequencies are not a belief system, but I’m not going to go into all of the science behind them right now. If you’re fascinated by the explanations behind it, Google away. It is an interesting search!
I’m a results woman. I can only certify that it has always been a calming influence for me and never more so that right now, when I need it most.
Where can you find 528 and 423 music? Everywhere. Much of it is free. Again, Google away.
I keep one or the other running on YouTube all day. There is a variety and most are several hours long, so you can just let it run and not think about it. Just give it a try and let me know how it works for you.
I’d also love to hear what music inspires and motivates and relaxes you.
